MEAT A CUT ABOVE THE REST
Cuts from a Perth Royal Show prize-winner will be for sale in Harvey today after butcher Kev’s Country Meats purchased the award-winner as part of a charity sale.
Harvey Beef purchased the 2018 Reserve Champion medium-weight led steer at the Perth Royal Show led steer and heifer sale for more than $2000 and gave the store first offer to purchase the prize-winning beef.
The money raised through the sale, more than $130,000 in total, will go towards the Black Dog Institute to raise awareness about men’s mental health.
Candis Gordon from Kev’s Country Meats said she had purchased prize-winning beef from the sale in previous years, but never one of this calibre.
“The beef was processed at Harvey Beef, who are helping support the local community by allowing a local butcher to showcase this prize-winning beef in my shop,” Mrs Gordon said.
“It’s really exciting to be able to able to offer award-winning cuts to locals. “I’m really looking forward to sharing this.” The limousin angus cross was bred by Murdoch University, weighed in at 454kg and was bought by Harvey Beef for $2200.
“We’re committed to supporting WA agriculture and important charities such as the Black Dog Ride,” Harvey Beef spokeswoman Jeni Seaton said.
Robert Gatti, Adarah Auburn, Candis Gordon, Louise Holdsworth and Jayden Auburn from Kev's Country Meats display the award-winning beef.
