Not your garden variety St John’s depot
Everything is coming up roses – or petunias, rather – at Harvey’s St John Ambulance sub-centre.
Luigi Lamberto volunteers his time daily to tend to the garden beds at the depot, growing petunias and kangaroo paws grown from seed each year.
Sub-centre chairman Chris Sabourne said Mr Lamberto did a great job.
“The proof is in the pudding,” he said.
“He really does an awesome job.”
Ten year’s ago, after running the Yarloop service station for 34 years, Mr Lamberto retired and moved to Harvey but has been unable to slow down.
After years of creating his own remarkable garden on Uduc Road, five years ago Mr Lamberto decided to offer a helping hand to the town’s St John Ambulance centre.
“I love gardening,” Mr Lamberto said. “You have to do it every day.” Mr Lamberto said he was happy when he was out in the garden. “I can’t stop working,” he said. “They say when you stop, you die. Well I want to die happy.”
Luigi Lamberto shows Harvey St John Ambulance sub-centre chairman Chris Sabourne a few tips on gardening.
