Will Ferrell gives improvisation a good name. He riffs wildly in Zoolander, The Other Guys and, of course, Elf. This Christmas crack-up sees the man-child come up with all kinds of comedy gold: “We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup” and
“I am a cotton-headed ninny-muggins!” The premise is simple and effective (like his improv). Buddy (Ferrell) is transported to the North Pole as a wee bairn and raised to adulthood among Santa’s elves. He just can’t shake the feeling that he doesn’t fit in, so the adult Buddy travels to New York, in full elf uniform, in search of his real father. No spoilers.
