This recent remake of the original 1974 canine classic Benji is a very safe bet for parents with early primary schoolers that need some entertaining. The key here is that the pooch playing the new Benji is just about the most adorable of the many tail-waggers to have taken this iconic role over the years. Just as importantly, the mystique of this majestic mutt of no fixed pedigree (or address) remains intact: there is still no explanation of how Benji can understand the English language better than you or I, and will always gain access to a criminal hide-out when trained police cannot. Running time is just over 80 minutes, also perfect for the young’uns.
