TRUMP TESTS EVEN SERHANT

AT A glance, Ryan Serhant has a lot in common with US President Donald Trump. Both are real estate moguls and reality TV stars.

But Trump’s controversial presidency has given Serhant — the consummate TV salesman — a selling problem.

Trump’s properties in New York, once sought after, have become hard to move.

“I’ve never met him, but I have sold in a lot of his buildings,” Serhant says.

“We used to sell a lot more before he became president, now it’s become a lot harder.

“I would say they’re not as popular any more, to be honest. It’s tricky branding. The apartments don’t change, but the brand has changed.”

If confidence makes a good salesman, Ryan Serhant is onbrand.

Along with Swedish-born Fredrik Eklund, a former gay porn star, clean-cut Serhant is one of the founding cast members of Million Dollar

Listing NY, which now co-stars Steve Gold.

Thanks to his popularity — Serhant has 702,000 followers on Instagram — he has appeared in a spin-off special as he wed Emilia Bechrakis. He shut down Times Square to propose to her in 2014.

And now he has his own series, Sell it Like Serhant.

“It’s a sales show, obviously. In every episode there’s a different business where I go in and work with a salesperson — not the business — who is about to lose their job. So I tell them how to sell their product better before they get fired, and I’ve got a week to do it.”

While his TV career keeps growing, Serhant says real estate is his biggest concern.

“Last year we did just under $900 million of sales, this year we’ll cross a billion I hope.

“TV is an amazing creative outlet. I wouldn’t be where I was today without Million Dollar

Listing. It is a tool to tell the world I’m a salesperson.”

Serhant is prone to making grandiose statements, such as “I am the American Dream”. He has the good grace to laugh at himself when asked about his propensity to brag.

“When there’s a TV camera in front of your face, you have to decide to go hard or go home. But there’s a camera in front of me ... go big, that’s what I do.”
