The US has had a 36.3-tonne GCM limit for years on truck-trailer com­bi­na­tions on its na­tional high­ways, but the Amer­i­can Truck­ing As­so­ci­a­tions, rep­re­sent­ing larger US fleets, now want the limit raised to 44-tonnes. Given cur­rent fuel prices, a weight in­crease is seen as ra­tio­nal when the cost of the fuel per freight tonne-kilo­me­tre is cal­cu­lated.
