GIVE Gary Ferguson ( carsGuide, August 15) A big hanky to cry in.

He needs one, he just hasn’t worked it out! His Corollas are so good he’s gone through six since 1988. Obviously they’re good cars, you just don’t keep them longer than warranty.

Twenty years ago I bought a sixcylinder HQ Holden and converted it to gas. It’s been around Australia twice, the second time towing a caravan, and I still drive it to work every day.

I have six-cylinder power, the economy of a Corolla and no greenhouse gas emissions. Given the economy and greenhouse effect, Why Australians are lining up to buy Corollas is truly a mystery. Angela Blair

email Don’t be so smug on greenhouse, as every car takes energy to create before you worry about fuel. And LPG still comes from an oilfield. Ed
