INDUSTRY AT RISK

Herald Sun - Motoring - - Letters -

I THOUGHT Phil Way ( carsGuide, August 15) dealt with you rather severely on LED lighting.

I have just taken delivery of a 60th Anniversary Calais V and can assure you the stop, tail and turn lights are incandescent globes. More importantly, I can say that the VE is a magnificent car that was designed and built in Australia by one of our last major manufacturing industries, LED or no LED(s).

I hope that we won’t be ‘‘LED astray’’ by Steve Bracks’ report on tariffs. We need a little more assurance than Bracks just ‘‘believing’’ the big three will survive. Once the industry is gone it won’t come back! Perhaps we should temper our economic processes with some strategic thinking. Alan Swann

email Thanks for the Commodore update. I also worry about the future of the motor industry as it brings huge benefits to Australia.

Ed

Shine a light: Calais V has been given the thumbs up.
