THE latest-generation Golf 6 will bring an all-turbo engine line-up to Australia. Each of the petrol and diesel engines for the new Golf, from the basic 1.4 petrol to the 2-litre diesel, has turbocharged forced induction.
Even the late-2009 starter car is likely to have a new 1.2-litre turbo, replacing the current 1.6-litre petrol motor.
The change comes as Volkswagen chases maximum fuel economy with minimal emissions, a combination best achieved with forced induction of a small-capacity motor. It already works well in the current Golf with the GTi’s performance turbo motor and the 1.4-litre twin-charge system in the GT.
