Makers go green
Europe’s makers of commercial vehicles have come together in the interest of the environment and issued a blueprint for the future. The Vision 20-20 plan issued jointly by Daimler, DAF, Iveco, MAN, Scania and Volvo says shaping the future of transportation is a collective challenge.
‘‘Our direct contribution is a further decrease in fuel consumption by modern trucks by an average 20 per cent a tonne/kilometre by 2020,’’ Daimler Trucks’ Andreas Renschler says. ‘‘In addition our industry will actively help strike a balance between mobility and environmental protection through a partnership with political leaders, the fuel industry, transporters, vehicle operators, and drivers.’’
The strategy fits in with the recently defined EU objective to reduce overall greenhouse gas emissions by 20 per cent towards 2020.
