Twin-cab takes off
Dual-cab utes are the latest must-have for adventurous families, writes STEPHEN OTTLEY
SUMMER is fast approaching, which makes it the perfect time for the National 4x4 Show, Fishing Show and Outdoors Expo.
Mitsubishi’s new Triton Fastback will be one of the star attractions as families begin planning summer holidays.
The 4x4 Show will be the first chance Melburnians have to see the newest addition to the Triton range before it goes on sale next month.
The wraps only came off the car this week at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney.
The 4x4 Show will be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from October 23-26.
According to show boss Chris Hill, dual-cab utes are becoming increasingly popular as families move away from traditional choices.
‘‘Dual-cab utes are fast becoming the family car of choice in Australia and the Triton range is one of the most popular on offer, so it’s great that the Triton Fastback will make a special appearance at the show before its official product launch,’’ Hill says.
‘‘I know many people come to the show to look at the latest vehicles that allow them to go off the beaten track in comfort and from what I’ve heard and read so far, I know the Triton is sure to be popular.’’
Joining Mitsubishi at the show will be cars from Holden and Hyundai. Nissan will display its new turbodiesel X-Trail.
Sales of off-roaders and dual-cab utes remain steady and Hill says the show will be a one-stop shop for people interested in off-road driving, fishing or camping.
‘‘Everything you need to make your next trip the adventure of a lifetime will be at this year’s show. The show will have everything from four-wheel-drive manufacturers and accessories, camper trailers and equipment, along with fishing gear, boats and tinnies.’’
For the first time there will be a demonstration track so show visitors can put the cars through their paces.
The Ragged Edge crew is staging the Extreme Off-Road Spectacular indoors. These all-terrain vehicles are built in-house and have V8 Chevrolet engines, 44-inch tyres, four-wheel steering, and front and rear manual diff locks.
Off-road and on show: the wraps have just come off the new Triton Fastback.
