Tipping the balance
Buy it, load it and work it, writesGRAHAM SMITH
BUYING a work-ready model like Fuso’s lightduty Canter tipper direct from the factory takes the worry out of what can be a stressful process.
Most operators want a truck that will get the job done with minimum fuss. They don’t want to have to concern themselves with buying a truck, then getting a body built for their needs.
Fuso’s Canter Factory Tipper comes straight from the factory with a 2cu m steel tipper body fitted. It has an automatically opening tailgate, drop-sides all round, and a shovel holder and a spare wheel behind the cab.
With a GVM of 6000kg the Canter Tipper will carry a payload of almost three tonnes, and it can easily be derated to a GVM of 4495kg if needed so it can be driven on a regular car licence.
Operators will appreciate the ability of the Canter Tipper to get on with the job straight out of the dealer’s door, and drivers will appreciate the performance, comfort and safety the Canter delivers.
Power comes from Fuso’s 4.9-litre double overhead camshaft four-cylinder intercooled turbodiesel engine that puts out 110kW at 2700 revs and 471Nm at 1600 revs, which feeds a fivespeed gearbox.
Reinforced door structures with side impact beams, a reinforced cab floor and an impact-absorbing instrument panel protect the driver and passengers in a crash. Further crash protection is available for the driver in the form of an optional driver’s side airbag.
Drivers will also appreciate the large convex rear-view mirrors that give a comprehensive view of the outside world and can be folded flat against the cab when driving into tight spaces.
With the five-speed gear lever in the dash the driver has greater freedom to move around the cab. It makes entering or exiting the truck through the passenger door easy when the driver’s door is restricted.
The Fuso Canter Tipper costs $44,990 including dealer delivery charges, but not government and statutory charges, for this month. A three-year warranty applies to the truck and tipper body.
Comfort and safety: the cab has plenty of room to manoeuvre and the occupants are well protected.
