Bathurst blitz with Lowndes is unreal

CRAIG Lowndes made me carsick this week in a threelap race at Bathurst. And we weren’t even in a car. Lowndes beat Greg Murphy to the flag and set the quickest lap with me alongside, but he didn’t have to go anywhere near Mt Panorama for his latest Bathurst win.

Instead, we were strapped in a V8 Supercar simulator at Dreamworld on the Gold Coast, the newest ride there and one that does a great job of putting you inside a V8 Supercar.

‘‘This is great fun. It’s not real, but it gives you an idea of what it’s like,’’ Lowndes says.

The V8 Supercars Redline ride has four cars, and another 21 virtual cars inside the computer simulator, with everything from a realistic V8 engine note to steering-wheel vibrations.

Driving the Redline ride costs $10 and a passenger-car ride an extra $5. It’s probably worth spending a little extra on a paper bag if you are alongside someone who attacks like Lowndes.
