It’s simply the nature of The Beast
ERIC Bana is a major-league car nut. When I sat next to him during the 2006 Australian Grand Prix — we shared space in the Renault F1 pit as Fernando Alonso drove to victory — it was clear he knew exactly what was happening. And he was fired up by the action.
Bana has been doing low-key racing in Porsches for a couple of years now and also went to Mount Panorama to drive a Mitsubishi Evo in the recent 12-hour production-car clash. He’s not a winner, but he’s not an embarrassment.
This is background to Bana’s new movie.
Lots of people have talked about The Hulk and his love for a 1970s V8 Falcon coupe, which led him to create the new movie Love the Beast. There is a major promotional campaign around the film, including clips with Dr Phil and fellow car nut and television host Jay Leno.
So this is a love job. I have yet to see the film and part of me does not want to watch it.
But Love the Beast sounds like fun and, as someone who drove for the first time in the 1970s, it will be good to see Bana’s Falcon in action. What the heck, I’m going. See you there.
Labour of love: Eric Bana and his V8 Falcon coupe.
