IN PORSCHE circles the Turbo reigns supreme. It first hit the road in the 1970s as a raw and raucous supercar that heralded a new era in ultra-high-performance sports cars.

The Turbo not only elevated Porsche into the upper echelons of high-performance sports cars, but it also redefined them.

That first Turbo was a beast of a car, with enormous performance and some challenging traits that tested even the best of drivers. But though there were those who loved its noholds-barred performance, it was too much for many.

That’s where the 964 came in. The new and much-refined 911 Turbo was launched here in 1991.
