It’s our emission mission
THIS is World Environment Day and that means something very different for today’s carsGuide. We’ve gone green.
When planning began for today’s liftout I was worried there might not be enough genuine news stories with some sort of green insight or angle. We Aussies do like our home-grown muscle cars, after all.
But more and more green stuff sprouted as the deadline approached and we’ve been able to serve up a mixture of news, views and previews of the latest and greatest on hybrid cars, fuel-cell development and low-emission diesels.
There was no chance to get the latest Lexus RX hybrid into the mix, but we did the next best thing with a test of the petrol model. And there is a bit of fun as well with our regular motorsport wrap and a preview of the 2011 Mercedes SLK roadster.
Today is also the start of a major new promotion for the carsGuide which promises a huge payoff for three readers.
Once a month, for the next three months, a carsGuide reader who buys a car from an affiliated dealer will win $10,000. That’s a $30,000 incentive to keep current with your carsGuide.
Full details on the ‘‘10,000 reasons to buy a car’’ promotion are included in today’s edition. And I cannot sign off the latest news without reporting that we will be able to give accurate price guides, despite the story we reported last week on a new policy that requires drive-away pricing in all Australian advertising.
These prices will be much the same as always, but we have to say they are only the recommended price before statutory and delivery charges.
So it’s been a big week, but there have been a lot of wins.
Green light: more and more low-emission machines are coming on to the market.
