Re­cov­ery signs

THE truck mar­ket re­mains de­pressed, but is show­ing signs of a re­cov­ery, ac­cord­ing to data re­leased by ERG and the Truck In­dus­try Coun­cil. The May fig­ures show the heavy-duty seg­ment has been hard­est hit, with sales down al­most 35 per cent com­pared to the same month last year. Light-duty also has been hit hard, with sales down nearly 30 per cent, while medium-duty truck sales are down just un­der 20 per cent. Isuzu holds on to top spot for the first five months of the year, hav­ing sold 2611 trucks for a mar­ket share of 25.6 per cent, com­fort­ably lead­ing Hino and Fuso. Isuzu also heads the charts in light-duty and medium-duty with 39.8 per cent and 41.6 per cent re­spec­tively, while Ken­worth heads the heavy­weights with 19.1 per cent. Volvo and Isuzu fol­low, with Freight­liner mak­ing ground in fourth.
