THE Australian Transport Council has asked Transport Certification Australia, the body charged with administering the Intelligent Access Program, to develop an electronic fatigue and speed management system to enable regulators to monitor drivers and their compliance with fatigue-management laws. TCA head Chris Koniditsiotis says the move shows governments are adopting 21st-century thinking in using modern technology to tackle the age-old problem of driver fatigue and road safety. The TCA plans to consult the telematics industry, transport operators, the logistics sector and government to ensure the result is the best possible outcome for all concerned.
