Crossing warning

Herald Sun - Motoring - - News -

THE Australian Trucking Association has called on drivers to be careful when crossing railway tracks. ‘‘All level crossing collisions are avoidable,’’ ATA chairman Trevor Martyn says. ‘‘Drivers must be aware of their responsibilities when going over level crossings.’’ The ATA says on average there are 100 accidents at level crossings each year, resulting in 37 deaths. These could easily be avoided if every road user, whether they are truck or car drivers, cyclists or pedestrians, give level crossings the respect they deserve.
