Bowe masters touring cars
OHN Bowe is a master at driving a touring car. The former V8 Supercar racer is now near the front of the Biante Touring Car Masters series driving a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS and fighting with defending champion Gavin Bullas in a Corvette and touring car legend Jim Richards in a 1964 Ford Sprint.
Bowe trails Bullas by 126 points going into the final round at the Historic Sandown meeting on November 7-8.
But 180 points are on offer over the weekend and drivers have to drop their worst-round result, which brings Bowe back into realistic contention at only 81 points adrift.
There have been five different round winners this season, so weekend honours and outright points are both up for grabs.
Group 2 series leader Trevor Talbot should claim the championship title at Sandown in his XU-1 Torana, shifting the focus to third-placed Greg Waddington’s bid to run down Rory O’Neill for second place overall.
Waddington has been bridesmaid in the series for the past two years and will be determined to keep O’Neill’s HQ Holden in the rearview mirror of his Porsche 911. To celebrate the 2009 season final, the Biante Touring Car Masters and the are offering two readers a hot lap with dual Bathurst 1000 winner John Bowe next Friday, November 6, at Sandown Raceway before the National Lube Historic Sandown on November 7-8.
Entrants must be 16 or older (and with a parent or guardian if younger than 18), able to attend Sandown on the Friday, in reasonably good health and wear enclosed footwear. It’s a dream ride in a classic car.
