Hit the web to plan

PLANNING routes for heavy haulers should be a lot easier, thanks to a web portal set up by the National Transport Commission. The program, which can be used free at www.ntc.gov.au, is an interactive map used to plan routes across all Australian states and territories. Categories include level 1, equivalent to general access and limited to 20m long and 50.5 tonnes; level 2, for B double routes; level 3, for road trains type I; and level 4, for road trains type II. NTC chief executive Nick Dimopoulos says: ‘‘This will become a valuable tool for the trucking industry and will enhance our ability to move towards a more nationally consistent and productive transport system.’’
