The death toll on the world’s road is showing a significant downward trend, at least in the 52 countries which are members of the International Transport Forum. The Paris-based ITF says the toll fell below 150,000 in 2008 for the first time — an 8.9 per cent decrease from 2007, the biggest reduction since 1990 — with preliminary data for 2010 pointing to another drop of almost 10 per cent.
