Volvo seeks sedan slice

The compact Volvo S40 (below) and V50 are almost certain to die. The Swedish company’s future-model plan is built around an extension of its C30 line-up with an upcoming XC30 SUV — but with no place for the S40 it originally developed in partnership with Mitsubishi. Volvo rules out a five-door S30, but refuses to discuss either an XC30 or the potential dumping of the S40. ‘‘I will not tell you,’’ says Tomas Ahlborg, who heads the team on the latest Volvo S60. He confirms there will be a V60 station wagon
