Reed ready to ride again

Herald Sun - Motoring - - Onroad -

AUSTRALIAN Chad Reed (below) is expected to be fit for the supercross series starting in October.

The two-time SuperX champion and multiple world and American supercross titleholder pulled out of the AMA motocross series last month with glandular fever.

An announcement on his recovery is expected soon.

However, he will have some stiff competition at the Brisbane and Sydney rounds with Kawasaki teammate, American Ryan Villopoto, confirmed to compete.

Villopoto, 21, was leading the American supercross series with seven wins before he was forced out with a broken leg. It will be the first time he has raced in Australia.

‘‘The Sydney and Brisbane races are the only major events I will race in before the 2011 AMA series, so it’s going to be great preparation for me and I’ll be going for the win at both,’’ Villopoto says.

Other US riders to compete include Kevin Windham, Davi Millsaps, Mike Alessi and Justin Brayton. Kiwi Ben Townley, who is third in the American motocross championship, will also race.
