Strike is over
GREEK truck drivers have ended a six-day strike that caused nationwide fuel shortages.
About 33,000 drivers, and some owners, are protesting against a government plan to open the freight industry in line with conditions of a European Union and International Monetary Fund bailout that was accepted earlier this year.
The Greek Government says: ‘‘The transport market will open, this reform is necessary for the economy and the citizens and for that reason the legislation will go forward.’’
The strike had such an impact the army was called to supply fuel to hospitals, power plants and airports.
