Ute picks up stylish change

Herald Sun - Motoring - - Onroad -

THE working-class Mazda BT ute is heading for a makeover that includes a new body.

The BT-50 is the Mazda version of the shared T6 development program at Ford Australia that created the global workhorse.

Both brands will reveal their contenders at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney next month.

Ford is keeping its T6 secret but Mazda has released an artist’s impression of its BT-50.

The drawing shows a more modern vehicle, with a wedgy nose and a side profile that is similar to the Mitsubishi Triton.

Mazda in Japan describes the ute as ‘‘an active lifestyle vehicle that overturns the conventional image of a compact pick-up truck with modern and refined styling’’.

It also says it’s not just for workers, but also for families and ‘‘pleasure seekers’’ with an active lifestyle.
