LNG gets a big boost
Australia produced a record amount of liquefied natural gas last financial year, according to the energy economics group EnergyQuest.
It says Australia produced 18.7 million tonnes, up 7.5 per cent on the previous financial year.
‘‘The growth in production was driven by growing demand for Australian LNG in Japan, China and Taiwan,’’ EnergyQuest chief executive Dr Graeme Bethune says.
EnergyQuest says that, though export volumes grew, the value of exports fell from $10 billion to $7.8 billion.
This was caused by the falling price of LNG, which is linked to oil prices.
