Eyes on the laws

The bid to nationalise the most important transport laws is moving along.

The National Transport Council and Heavy Vehicle Regulator Project Office plan to release a document in February called a regulatory impact statement and exposure draft, which looks at how the new rules will work and which ones will need to be changed.

The laws due to be consolidated nationally include heavy vehicle registration; vehicle standards; heavy vehicle charges; oversize and over-mass vehicles; restricted-access vehicles compliance and enforcement; and heavy vehicle fatigue and speeding compliance.
