AN EN­GINE fail­ure ended the sea­son of three­time Speedway Grand Prix world cham­pion Ja­son Crump. In his worst re­sult of the year, he scored only seven points in the Ital­ian speedway GP at the week­end. To­masz Gol­lob, 39, be­came Poland’s first world cham­pion since Jerzy Szcza­kiel in 1973. Crump con­firmed he will con­test the fi­nal event in Poland on Oc­to­ber 9 and will have surgery to re­pair nerve dam­age to his left arm the next week. He has been as high as third in the se­ries, but has slipped to ninth.
