Herald Sun - Motoring - - News -

THE design ace who used success in Australia to springboard to the top in the US is coming home.

Mike Simcoe is already packing for a return to Melbourne before the end of the year and a likely posting as head of AsiaPacific design for General Motors.

Simcoe was the highly-successful head of Holden Design at Fishermans Bend, leading a range of projects including the Monaro and the Elfin Speedster, before he was tapped for work in Detroit. He is head of exterior design for the Chevrolet brand, a global job that takes him to the Paris Motor Show for the European unveiling of Australia’s Cruze hatchback.

Simcoe expects to be home in December and says that personal reasons are behind the move.

‘‘I decided to be kind to my family for a change. They agreed to go to the States for three years and it’s been six.’’
