Rent your next truck
A NEW program allows operators to run Scania trucks without buying them.
The Swedish brand has launched the Truck Rental program, which enables operators to rent Scania models up to two years of age.
Scania says it is the only in-house national truck rental program in Australia.
It has just introduced the rental operation in Victoria, but plans to also roll it out in New South Wales and Queensland in the next few months.
Scania will offer a range of prime movers with sleeper cabs for short to medium-term leases. They will all feature Euro 5 specification engines.
Scania says the rental agreements will be structured to give customers optimum flexibility, with terms ranging from one to 24 months.
The rental fee will include registration and nationwide roadside assist.
That means customers only need to add fuel, drivers and insurance cover.
Scania denies the rental program is being introduced to get rid of a surplus of unsold trucks.
‘‘To the contrary, we are ordering trucks specifically for the rental program,’’ says Scania Australia spokesman, Alexander Corne.
The managing director of Scania Australia, Roger McCarthy, says the company is responding to the market.
‘‘Our market research tells us there is a clear demand for a premium truck rental product directly from a premium truck manufacturer,’’ he says.
‘‘Scania Truck Rental has been established for many years in key markets overseas, and we are confident the concept will be attractive to many operators here in Australia.’’
McCarthy says the rental option could help operators who might not want to make the commitment of buying a new truck.
Scania Truck Rental should prove attractive to operators who have a need for expansion of their Prime Mover fleets to meet peak demand, as well as to those operators looking for long-term flexibility in their vehicle fleets, he says.
McCarthy says the Scania truck rental program has kicked off successfully.
In fact, a contract was secured for 12 Scanias within days of confirming the program.
