Get ready for a new Forester, writes Mark Hinchliffe
ANEW Forester flagship will join the Subaru line-up next year. The S-Edition is previewed at the Australian International Motor Show with a collection of go-fast and dress-up gear that it will take it $4000 beyond today’s Forester XT in showrooms.
The preview car even has a wingmounted rear-vision mirror, a pointer to its Japanese origins and the car’s world-first showing at Darling Harbour in Sydney.
The Forester S-Edition is powered by a turbocharged 2.5 litre boxer engine with 193kW of power, which is 24kW more than the XT, and produces 347Nm of torque, up 27 Nm.
Other features are a paddle-shift, five-speed automatic gearbox, revised sports suspension, Variable Torque Distribution (VTD) all-wheel drive and STI 17-inch high-lustre alloy wheels.
Inside the new Forester features alcantara seat trim with S-Edition logos, drilled alloy pedals and luminescent instruments with a centre de- sign and Forester S-Edition badging. ‘‘It points towards an exciting development in our Forester range early next year,’’ Subaru Australia. managing director Nick Senior says.
‘‘ Forester is firmly established as Australia’s best-selling compact sports utility vehicle, with the most recent addition to the range being the diesel variants that are proving a sales winner for our all-wheeldrive brand.
‘‘There’s no denying Forester’s appeal to Australians in both urban and rural environments,’’ Mr Senior says. ‘‘So we think this concept will only add to the huge interest.’’
Aussie appeal: the new Forester S-Edition.
