With three quarters of the year gone, the new truck industry is showing signs of recovery, but not in all areas. VFACTS sales results to the end of September reveal some truck segments are bouncing back. The light duty class, covering trucks and vans with GVM of 3500kg to 7500kg, was the strongest with year to date sales up by 10.9 per cent on last year. Isuzu’s N-Series was again the clear winner with 2755 sales this year from Mercedes-Benz with 1663 Sprinter sales. Heavy trucks, with a GVM of 15,000kg or more, grew slowly with year to date sales up by 3.4 per cent despite September sales dipping 3.8 per cent on September 2009. As expected, Kenworth is dominating with 1463 sold this year, well in front of Volvo Truck with 728. Sales of mid-size trucks, with a GVM of 7500kg to 15,000kg, are down a considerable 7.6 per cent and van sales are stagnant.
