AUSTRALIA has snatched two of six rookie spots in next year’s World Rally Championship thanks to the speed and commitment of youngsters Molly Taylor and Brendan Reeves.

They won their spots through the Pirelli Star Driver shootout in Spain, where 16 youngsters competed for six chances to drive in next year’s world championship.

They will each get six starts in a Ford Fiesta R2.

‘‘I am overwhelmed and incredibly excited,’’ says Taylor.

‘‘This is a dream come true for me,’’ says Reeves.

The pair competed in a series of tests in Spain, from driving to a mock press conference, and Reeves finished on top.

He won the right to compete through his results this year in the Asia-Pacific Rally Championship.

Taylor was nominated after a solid year in the British Rally Championship that saw her finish as the country’s top female driver for the second straight year.

She moved to the UK at the start of last year to advance her rally career and works at M-Sport, the company that fields the factory Ford Focus cars in the WRC.
