Give us a break
The Australian Trucking Association has called on the Federal Government to relax fatigue management rules to make life easier for truck drivers. Truck drivers operating under the Basic Fatigue Management system must take a rest of at least seven hours in any 24 hours. ATA chief executive Stuart St Clair says more flexibility is needed so drivers can split their rest breaks and focus on getting better rest when tired. ‘‘Many drivers and operators are disappointed the process is taking so long to be resolved,’’ he says.
