Alison storms to the front

Herald Sun - Motoring - - Prestige -

WOMEN resort to many things to ease the pain of childbirth, but watching V8 Supercars is usually not on the list.

But that’s what Alison Storm did, and her dedication has won her a Dunlop VIP trip to the Sydney 500 on December 3-5, including a dinner with V8 driver John Bowe.

‘‘I watched the entire 1985 Bathurst in labour, I have cleaned a hotel room for a week for John Bowe, and I have fuel in my veins,’’ Storm says in her entry to prove she is Australia’s biggest V8 Supercar fan.

Hers was one of many clever entries that made the decision difficult for judges, and proved the V8 Supercar series has a committed fan base.

She narrowly beat Aeron Napper of Sydney, who admits: ‘‘I’m 27 and the walls of my bedroom are covered in V8 Supercar posters and, much to my girlfriend’s disgust, I have a V8 Supercar doona cover.’’

The judges found the final decision so hard that Dunlop has decided to give Napper a consolation prize — a cap signed by the winner of the Sydney 500 to match his doona cover.

His girlfriend should be warned she could end up in the same situation as the fiancee of Hobart’s Darren Quinn, who says: ‘‘I’m getting married on December 4. I’m sure the missus won’t mind if I’m not there. This is way more important . . .’’
