PINPOINT FOCUS FORD is about to stage-release globally the all-new 2012 Ford Focus, including Australia in a year or so.
I’ve seen photographs of the hatch and sedan and they look more attractive than the current bland-looking ones, both inside and out.
Have you had a chance to look at one and do you think it will do big things for Ford Australia if it markets it correctly. It hasn’t had a really successful small car since the Laser was axed?
Barry Kotze, email I’ve seen the new Focus and it’s a truly global car for the first time, looking pretty good, with more style than the current model. That should mean more in most areas for less money but we’ll have to wait until I drive it for a proper verdict. I also miss the Laser.
IN YOUR response to a person asking about a BMW X1 you said you were not a fan. I was wondering why, because I have ordered one, a 1.8-litre petrol twowheel drive.
Is there a problem with this car or inherent problems?
John Morell, email Nothing hugely wrong, but the X1 is not BMW’s best work and I prefer the Volvo XC60. Check the original X1 road test at carsguide.com.au
WE ARE looking at buying a Nissan Pathfinder 2010 St-L model. Can you tell us the best time to buy? Is it the end of year, end of financial year or some other time?
Trish and Shane, email It’s generally best to buy any vehicle at the end of a month because dealers are trying to reach their sales targets. End of year will be good, but if you are happy and can get a ‘‘superseded’’ 2010 vehicle you like in the early weeks of January 2011 you will probably do even better. If there are no time pressures, sale deals at the end of the financial year are always good.
MY WIFE is expecting twins and I’m looking at buying a secondhand 2007-2009 people-mover, either a Honda Odyssey or a Mitsubishi Grandis.
I like the look of the Grandis, but which is the better car?
Chris Hagiliassis Go for the Odyssey. It’s a better vehicle and, at launch time, was cheaper than the Grandis.
Good looks: the 2012 Ford Focus at the LA Auto Show this month.
