WEST Australian Rick Lockwood has won the title of Scania’s Young Australian Truck Driver. The 26-year-old from Perth beat 11 other finalists at a skill and knowledge test at Flemington Racecourse. He won $10,000 from Scania, a $5000 travel voucher from Castrol and a Swedish Orrefors crystal trophy. Scania Australia managing director Roger McCarthy says: ‘‘Rick Lockwood is an allrounder with exceptional knowledge of what it takes to be a professional driver and is someone who can be an ambassador for young people in our industry by sharing his dedication and professional approach to his work.’’ Lockwood says: ‘‘I hope I can use my position to help educate young people, especially 16 and 17 year olds, about trucks and how to behave around them and support them to be recruited into the industry.’’ Nick Hornby, of Darwin, was second and Melbourne’s Jarrad Jeffs was third.
