Double celebration for Moss twins
THE first twins to win both classes in an Australian supercross event plan to repeat the feat in the final round of the Super X series in Brisbane tomorrow. Jake and Matt Moss of NSW won the open and lites classes against a strong field, including several American imports, at Parramatta last weekend. ‘‘It was pretty special,’’ Jake says. The twins have also won both classes in a motocross event, but with Jake riding a 250cc bike in the lites class and Matt on a 450 in the open category. Jake is running third in the open championship but is out of contention for the title, and Matt has re-emerged as the lites leader ahead of American import P.J. Larsen. Both Moss twins are coming back from injuries. Jake broke his back in August and Matt his wrist. ‘‘I broke my back racing in the US and had a long time off racing,’’ Jake says. ‘‘My fitness is good, but my racecraft wasn’t really there. Now I’m starting to win some races towards the end of the season.’’ Matt says he is confident now he is back in the lead. ‘‘It’s been a hard season this year. I missed a race in the first round, which put me 25 points down,’’ he says. ‘‘I also had a major wrist injury but I’m starting to get on top of it now.’’ SUPER X OPEN STANDINGS 1 Josh Hansen, US, Kawasaki ...... 351 2 Jay Marmont, Aus, Yamaha ...... 307 3 Jake Moss, Aus, Suzuki ............. 275 SUPER X LITES STANDINGS 1 Matt Moss, Aus, Suzuki............. 273 2 P.J.
