SMALL-FLEET operators and owner-drivers are being sought for positions on the Australian Trucking Association general council. Candidates have until next Monday to register for the election next month. The election will be conducted by postal ballot. To be eligible to vote, you must own, be buying or leasing one to five trucks weighing more than 4.5 tonnes and be on the Commonwealth electoral roll. The eligibility rules have changed to allow non-drivers to vote as well as owner-drivers. ‘‘The rule change recognises that the business partners who stay home are committed to the trucking industry, have a deep knowledge of its issues, and have a right to be heard,’’ ATA chairman David Simon says.
