CARS and drivers arrive at an Adelaide CBD service station just before dawn to have their fuel tanks filled to the brim. Then we head north in a Holden Cruze and a Mitsubishi ASX, looking to see how much fuel these vehicles will use in 1000km of country cruising.
Our expert driver, Ed Ordynski, is in the ASX and I have the Cruze.
As we start out the Cruze trip computer is reading just over 6 litres/100km.
Ordynski says the ASX is reading just below 5 litres/100km.
The first stop is near Port Pirie after 250km and the figures are 5.3 and 4.2 as we battle wind and rain.
