This custom truck is aflame with features, writes James Stanford
BELIEVE it or not, this is an official Scania truck. Normally, you would need to take a rig to an aftermarket mob to get such an extreme look, but this cool custom truck is fully backed by Scania.
It is called the Black Amber and only 100 will be built.
Swedish Scania teamed with styling house Svempas to come up with the special design that is bound to draw admiring gazes.
It follows the limited-edition Dark Diamond Scania of 2009 that was so successful Scania decided to release another special version of its V8 R-Series.
The most distinctive element is
A fairly hefty price tag and a long wait mean they won’t be a common sight on local roads
the paint scheme, a mixture of bronze, black and orange with a brilliant effect that simulates flames coming from the air intake at either side of the grille and the exhaust pipes.
The stainless-steel exhaust pipe tips stand out with a cool alloy-look heat shield wrapping around the pipes that give the Black Amber a hot rod feel.
Svempas has dressed up the wheels with a matt-black treatment, but added some bling with stainless-wheel nuts and an orange pinstripe and chrome wheel ring.
The grille is painted standard black, and the mirrors and door handles also get a high-gloss black coating. The prime mover gets a checker-plate rear deck with extra LED lights.
Svempas has decked out the Black Amber cabin with black and orange leather seats, a custom steering wheel and a numbered rear wall panel. There is also an impressive DVD and satellite navigation system with a pop-up monitor which can also show footage from the rear-view camera with short and long range lens. There is also a 22-inch LCD system with powerful speakers and an 8-inch sub woofer.
Scania Australia says the Black Amber will be made available to Australian customers, though a fairly hefty price tag and a long wait mean they won’t be a common sight on local roads.
Rare gem: Scania’s latest offering won’t be seen too often, with only 100 for sale.
