THE 30-WEEK FALCON
IT’S bargain time for car shopping. According to CommSec analysts it now takes 31.4 weeks for an average wage earner to buy a new automatic Falcon XT. Car affordability improved over the past six months, falling from 32 weeks in the September quarter of 2010. It’s not far off the best levels seen in 34 years; in June 2009 it took the average worker the equivalent of 30.7 weeks of wages to buy the same Ford.
