IT’S bar­gain time for car shop­ping. Ac­cord­ing to Com­mSec an­a­lysts it now takes 31.4 weeks for an av­er­age wage earner to buy a new au­to­matic Fal­con XT. Car af­ford­abil­ity im­proved over the past six months, fall­ing from 32 weeks in the Septem­ber quar­ter of 2010. It’s not far off the best lev­els seen in 34 years; in June 2009 it took the av­er­age worker the equiv­a­lent of 30.7 weeks of wages to buy the same Ford.
