MOTORISTS have tuned out of Australia’s digital radio revolution with fewer than 100 people committed to the new technology.
Only one car is officially delivered with a digital radio, theBMW5 Series Touring wagon that went on sale in January, and only 69 orders have been placed for the $900 optional DAB+ system.
The automotive news is similar to overall figures showing only 700,000 Australians are listening to digital and only 406,000 radios have been sold.
Digital radio began in Australia 18 months ago but it is restricted to just five state capitals with no timeframe yet from the Federal Government for a regional roll-out.
BMWhas its system available for the 5 Series sedan and GT, 6 Series and 7 Series limousine but the company admits it is in the start-up phase.
