THE new Impreza featured in your column, while retaining the look of the current model, appears as if it will have extended guards similar to the latest Liberty.

It is not always the case, but greater cabin space can translate to wider external body dimensions and therefore a larger car.

I have admired the look of the Impreza hatch since its release about the same time as the present Lancer.

I said at the time that the Impreza had a more radical look than the Lancer and, though that look may have to grow on some people, the shape should endure for longer than the new Lancer with its very conventional shape.

As an empty nester, I wouldn’t want a larger Subaru Impreza.

Can you confirm whether issues with the present model Impreza include road noise intruding in the cabin and/or lack of seat support and quality of internal trim?

Eric Waples

Yes, some of the shortcomings in the latest Impreza are down to the design and trim. The new car previewed at the New York show promises to be much more luxurious and is closer in size to the previous Liberty.
