Yard full of engines

Herald Sun - Motoring - - Car News -

BLADE Electric Vehicles has a couple of container loads of discarded Hyundai petrol engines in the backyard.

Ross Blade says they will be used eventually as ‘‘tri-generation gas generators’’ for heating or cooling but ‘‘right now we have our hands full manufacturing electric cars,’’ he says.

Blade buys petrolpowered cars directly from Hyundai Motor Company Australia.

‘‘Why do we bring them in with a petrol motor? Because it’s expensive to push a car body on and off a ship,’’ he says.

Blade removes the exhaust system, fuel tank, engine and gearbox before installing an AC synchronous electric motor, Azure Dynamics drivetrain, lithium ion phosphate battery and management system.
