Launched in 2003, Volvo’s XC90 SUV featured the Swedish brand’s first V8. Typically, it is not your usual SUV V8. First, it is made by a motorcycle company: Yamaha. And its cylinders are arranged in a narrow 60-degree formation rather than the standard 90 degrees. It is a great engine, complete with a very unvolvo-like V8 crackle. The body and equipment surrounding it are also impressive. The XC90 is excellent secondhand value, with a oneowner 2006 example in Victoria asking $41,990. carsguide.com.au.
