Roomster to move

Herald Sun - Motoring - - Cover Story -

Also (re-)joining Skoda’s line-up this week is the Roomster, that singular huge hatchback-cum-crossover vehicle. Originally released here in 2007, it won attention for its novelty but tallied few sales due to its engine line-up.

The now returned version runs the excellent 1.2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder from 2010 Car of the Year, the Volkswagen Polo TSI. Within in its 4.2-metre long, 1.6-metre high frame, it has extraordinary versatility.

As in the Yeti SUV, it features the VarioFlex seating system that allows the compete removal of the second row for an almost commercial vehicle-like 1800 litres of caargo. Fold the seats flat and you get 1555L, leave them upright there’s still 450L — better than some big sedans.

As in the Fabia range, the colour palette is wide and vivid with amp room for individualisation.

Prices start at $22,490 for the five-speed manual and $24,790 fo the seven-speed DSG auto.
