Eccentric Uncle Tim’s bargain of the week
HOLDEN’S One Tonner was a ute so rugged that even tractors looked blousy by comparison. The claimed capacity may have been overstated — I recall a TV piece back in the day showing front wheels clear of the road when a full ton was aboard — but the One Tonner still ruled farms across the nation. A tough 1976 model now listed at Carsguide is loaded with the character that comes from 375,800 hard-working kilometres. It’s out of warranty, sure, but it also has Holden’s rumbly 253 cubic inch V8 and a four-speed manual. Asking just $2500. Buy it instead of getting a tattoo. Carsguide.com.au.
