You can have a hybrid and a sport sedan too
decidedly cooler on the whole petrol/electric concept than the Yanks.
The ActiveHybrid3 is the newest of the Bavarian’s twomodel niche gambit, sharing the ActiveHybrid5’s electrically augmented turbocharged inline six.
Thus is the newcomer the instant range-topper, the fastest and most fuel efficient petrol 3 Series? A 7 Series version is also en route
To the already formidable blown six is added a 40kW electric motor between the engine and transmission. The lithium-ion battery is integrated in the luggage area which— this beingBMWwith run-flat tyres— is not compromised by a spare wheel.
Power goes, of course, to the rear wheels and it gets them going quicker.
The 0-100km/h time is a mere 5.3 seconds— a decent 0.3 sec under the conventional 335i and the fastest time of any production hybrid.
However, a decent clip is expected from anyBMWwith six pots. The ActiveHybrid3’s point of departure is in the provision of purely electric, carbon-free pace at up to 75km/ h and average juice use of 5.6L/100km. The battery charges during braking and coasting, while under acceleration the electric motor provides extra and overboost.
